Printing at Scale: Resource Management at Japs-Olson

As one of the country’s largest producers of custom print products — including letter packages, postcards, snap packs, brochures and specialty mailings — Japs-Olson operates in a high-volume, resource-intensive environment where operational discipline directly impacts performance.

Monomoy has worked alongside Japs-Olson’s management team to identify improvements that reduce costs, streamline operations and strengthen the business long-term. Four areas of focus stand out:

  • Energy Efficiency: Through targeted energy optimization, Japs-Olson has saved over $550k in energy costs during our ownership.
  • Paper Waste Recycling: Japs-Olson captures and recycles all paper trimmings generated in production.
  • Solvent Waste Reduction: Solvent recycling has reduced chemical waste by 90%. This program both cuts down on the process-related waste leaving JO’s facility by ~12 tons annually and reduces the frequency of solvent purchases.
  • Responsible Sourcing: JO purchases approximately 40k tons of paper annually, all paper used in production is responsibly sourced and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified, ensuring a reliable, high-quality supply chain that supports consistent, at-scale production.

Together, these initiatives reflect a disciplined approach to running a more efficient, higher-performing operation and demonstrate Monomoy’s partnership model.
